Here's a picture of my re-worked strips into 'books'. I figure I can have a 'shelf' a month, two across and six down for a lovely 'bookcase' of days when the year is over. Luckily I had a huge chunk of the dark mud brown in the stash for use as background. There's yards of it and I'm not likely to use it for much else. (Ah, the joys of an inherited stash!)

What a clever idea!
Now that's just brilliant.
I love it :) I was sorting through a box this week and found a picture of a library shelf block I did a long time ago for our Chapter's banner.
My block had titles of bird books embroidered with call numbers in order as they appeared on the shelf that day.
I appliqued a hummingbird plus a chickadee sitting on one "quilting book" which was leaning upside & on wrong shelf :)
I've always wanted a library quilt! I have a dear quilting friend who is a librarian. This would be perfect. Great idea! Now I am re-thinking the whole thing.
Very inspiring idea. Can't wait to see it progress. I know I will never do anything like this, but I always love to see other's projects!
Neat idea for sure!!
Love how it looks.
I do recall a book shelf/case quilt few years past. I did not do one but thought one day I might as I love to read.
Well now maybe I can do a small wall hanging ortable runner your way!!
Thanks for juggling that memory and look forward to seeing your finished quilt top!!
Oh Karen, such a wonderful and unique idea! My first thought was to do this "book" idea for next year's calendar quilt....thank you for your innovation!

oh how fun!!!
question:
are you gonna hand stitch real book names on the book bindings???
like your mom's favs???
or classics like gone with the wind???
just curious.
Thanks for all the compliments, everyone!
And to Rachel, 'hand' is a four letter word to me! I don't do anything by hand if I can help it. I hadn't though of adding anything to the 'books'. At most, I might print out the letters of each month name and put those on the first books in each month like spine labels. Too soon to tell!
Thanks again, everyone!
