January's Block

This is my block for January. I'm really struggling with this, as I'm not sure I like the way the finished block looks. I'm considering either going in a different direction or withdrawing from the challenge. I blogged about it over on my blog made by lisah. I'd LOVE some input from you all.

the fabrics you have used so far are really nice. i visited your blog and can't help but point out that the calendar quilt is a coin quilt. i'm not involved in this challenge but am assisting with one similar in which the strips are 11 in. it's still a coin quilt. not sure what you don't like about yours.

Hi Lisa, don't give up that looks really good - I am way behind and haven't even posted anything yet - must do in the next day or two! Your fabric choice is great too! Hang in there...

My January strips ended up 9 1/2" long after trimming, and they're all different widths. I didn't plan too well there, so each month is getting its own treatment.

February is small squares interspersed with a long strip as necessary.

Don't know what March will be, but the point that I (and everyone else) want to make is that this is YOUR thing. You can make up most of the rules as you go and change them when you want to.

I think the only consistent thing is that by the time we're all finished, we'll have 365 pieces of fabrics in our quilts - though some of us will have more because we're adding stitcheries and stuff. See? No hard and fast rules!

Hang in there!!! I am dealing with some of the same issues, but I am marching on!!!!! I am trying to make mine with fabrics I use during the month, and mine are all over the place. I have always really loved scrappy quilts, and this is going to be REALLY scrappy!
So don't be hard on yourself, we are all behind you :-)!

I think you should do what you really like doing and not finish it if you don't like it. There are 11 months to go and if you already dislike January. Maybe you can give it a change somehow.

As long as it doesn't end up in WOMBAT territory (Waste Of Money, Batting , And Time), slice and dice until it's something you like. Turn them all into flying geese on white or black background. Chinese coin it. make 182 little nine-patch blocks (two fabrics/days per block?).

Oooh, I like that last idea. I may have to do that next year. There was a quilt in a magazine that had nine patches floating up into a night sky...
